Collection Description: The museum chronicles the industrial, social, cultural history of Watertown and Oakville. We have a Victorian parlor exhibit, extensive local research library, and we maintain the 1853 Nova Scotia Schoolhouse. Collections include:

  • Archival files: newspaper articles, pictures, documents, research, etc. on every aspect of Watertown and Oakville’s past;
  • State and Local Histories
  • Genealogies: Atwood, Barnes, Botsford, Buckingham, Copeland, Copes, Dayton, Garnsey/Guernsey/Gurnsey, Keilty, Lynn, Merriman, Simon Mills, Noble, Palmer, Peck, Percy, Pole, Roberts, Skilton, Scott, Smith
  • Diaries: many from the Skilton Family, one from E. M. French
  • Scrapbooks: many with local interest
  • Native American artifacts: tools and implements
  • Early industry: Heminway and Sons Silk Co., Bishop and Bradley, Wheeler And Wilson, Woolson Manufacturing
  • Industry: Heminway and Bartlett, Watertown Manufacturing, Seymour Smith, Scovill’s Oakville Pin
  • Pictures: local photos, postcards, daguerreotypes, stereo cards, cabinet cards, etc.
  • “Town Times” newspapers: local weekly newspaper; we have 1947-1987 on microfilm and 1987-present in chronological order in binders
  • “Watertown News” newspapers: a handful of issues from the early twentieth century
  • Account Books/Ledgers: Heminway and Bartlett Silk Co. (extensive collection, all from 1858-1950) and many other ledgers from local companies
  • Maps: some local and state
  • Textiles: extensive collection including samplers, quilts, clothing, etc.
  • Military: local artifacts and records
  • Taft School: records, pictures, memorabilia, etc.
  • Agriculture: tools, milk bottles, etc.
