Collection
Description:
The collection focuses on objects, ephemera and photographs illustrating the
history and development of the town of Colchester and the
region. The Colchester Historical Society maintains a museum
hosting exhibits featuring the Colchester/Hayward Rubber Company,
the Bulkeley Family history, the history of Bacon Academy,
the story of the Champion and Zagray families. The Bulkeley
Family history includes uniquely initialed coffin lids exhumed
from the tomb of Gershom Bulkeley. In addition, the Society
maintains the Zagray Homestead, a circa 1930 farm left intact
by the bachelor Zagray brothers. The brothers operated a working
farm, as well as an active machine shop, on their 100+ acres
of land.
